Songs That Still Get To Me

16 Aug

Some songs still get to me. It’s embarrassing (you’ll agree when you see the list) because I’d like to think I’m past some of them, but I guess not. I wonder if  any of these songs hit you too in one way or another when they pop up on the radio- and if not, which ones do?

I saw the sign

Just one Shabbos (Somehow this one escaped the plague that infected most other Jewish songs for me.)

Kiss Me

Unforgiven 2

My Immortal

Love Story (That was painful to admit)

Dragula (Ok, this is a little more manly)

There are others that I can’t think of now, but I’ll add them in the comments when I remember, no matter what it is. Crap, I was trying to pull up Behind Blue Eyes and I just remembered Behind These Hazel Eyes.

Here are a few of mine — off the top of my head:

    1. (Everywhere)

    2. (Stand Back)

    3. (Because the Night)

    4. (Who will save your soul)

    5. (Fading like a Flower)

    6. (Ironic)

I’ll stop here, but I could go on…

Thanks Gutman. Everybody else is leaving me hanging here.

BTW, I do very much like your last two (maybe I have a thing for eyes?) — but some of the others… well, not so much.

(Oh yeah, and I never would have admitted some of the 6 that I listed, had you not already shamelessly come clean on such ‘classic hits’ as “Love Story,” “Kiss Me, or “I Saw the sign”… what, no Avril Levigne? 😉

Lol, yeah classics. Avril Levigne, oy.
Idk, I connected to all these songs at one point, and I guess I still do. The corniness doesn’t feel so corny, and I don’t really know why. And z100 can do no wrong in my eyes 🙂 Listening to z100 on the dl, or opie and anthony. Man.

Yeah, i know what you mean.

Music has that unequaled power of memory association, to the point that I can remember emotions, thoughts (and it seems like even smells) when a song transport me back to some moment in time. It’s a pretty cool thing — we can remember the first time we heard various songs, who we were with, what we were doing, etc.

It seems like only yesterday that I was in a corner pharmacy, buying a package of Wise BBQ potato chips and this new song, “Like a Virgin,” came on the overhead radio — I stopped to listen to it and I said to my friend next to me, “she’s gonna be a star!” (OK, so it was her second album, but I didn’t know it at the time). The next song on the radio, also new at the time, was Cyndi Lauper’s “Girls just wanna have fun” — and we spent the next couple hours arguing about which was better and who would be a bigger star.

It’s funny, when I was listing of a few of them above, I realized that one leads to another and snowballs. I could easily list another 20 personally significant tunes without even having to think hard…

    Boston’s “More than a Feeling” …David Bowie’s “Let’s Dance” …Bryan Adams’s “Summer of 69” …the Eurythmics’ “Sweet Dreams” …Nina’s “99 Red Balloons” …John Lennon’s “Imagine” …Enya’s “Orinoco Flow” …Joan Osbourne’s “What if god was one of Us”…

P-L-E-A-S-E M-A-K-E I-T S-T-O-P! Aaaarrrghhh — it feels like my head is gonna explode, and it’s all YOUR fault!

Hahaha! Sorry. Great songs though- sweet dreams, summer of 69, orinoco flow…

Sweet dreams is a pretty deep song actually.

I’m telling you, this song makes me laugh and it’s always in my head. Christian Screamo metal, such gadlus. Reminds me of the time I tried bacon…

and then there is this: No matter how many times this song is played, Hot Chocolate always makes you feel like a sexy beast.

finally: The Ink Spots, I feel cold and scared but in awe at the same time as you listen to Galaxy News Radio while smashing up radiated mutants in Fallout 3.
Seriously, this song just plays over and over again like a soundtrack to my life when shiur gets really boring.

      Gadlus. Agreed. Rawrrr…Jesus loves you!!

I find myself beat boxing the South Park theme when I’m stuck somewhere.
Dzoo wa dzoo wa dzoo pah pah-*
      -What was that man?
Uh, nothing, had something in my throat.
