Random Thoughts: Words To Live By

18 Jan

Life really is like a box of chocolates. Most people are trying to get at the caramels or the truffles. But if you want to do it smarter, you’ll try to develop a taste for the raspberry ones. That way, you’ll always get what you want, and you won’t have to kill yourself or anyone else to get it. And at the end of the day, what does it matter who got the more popular chocolate? You both had chocolate, and you’re both going to be dead forever. Of course, I’ve never met any person who actually lived like this, I’m just saying it’s smarter.

But I like the raspberry ones! What can be bad, covered in chocolate?

Isn’t this is essentially Pirkei Avot, “Who is rich? One who is satisfied with his portion.”

I’ve been working on this, and even making progress:

** I want a life in which I need way more money than I (can probably even hope to) ever have.
** I want to be saddled with loads of responsibly that I haven’t the energy for.
** I want a meaningless non-career with zero stimulation and zero future.
** I want a large family that attends to education institutions that all-but guarantee their inability to succeed (in any honest way) in the marketplace
    ** I really hope for more toothaches, they’re such a f*cking joy.
** I want to be stuck in a religion that I really no longer find fulfilling in the slightest, and also pass it on to my children.
** I want to pay obscene amounts of money — half of my pathetic income — in tuition to schools that don’t really teach anything practical or useful.
** I want all that grey hair coming in to remind me that my body will soon begin to break down, and i don’t even have health insurance.

Man, I am so livin’ life now!

Hahaha! I’m sorry…but that was awesome.

Wow. Is that really what you have?
(And all the rest of us feel sorry we’re single. I’m kind of glad reading this.)

        Indeed, ’tis.
And yup, that’s me bringing smiles to others through schadenfreude — just one of the many services that I offer (man oh man, I should have slowed down and proofread that comment before posting above. Sheesh).

I’m the kid in these ones, but, I got out early enough and single enough and at least there was still law school which will take you without a real degree, and is a good option for about 1% of those who want it.
